Kelly and I went to Perkfection, a coffee house in Jeffersonville IN to watch our friends Charlie and Ashley play guitar. It was in this cozy little section of town, with all of these old time storefronts, and very clean streets. I'd never been in Jeffersonville, but it reminded me a little of some of the older neighborhoods in Nothern Kentucky, only a little more well kept.

The show was really cool. Charlie, Ashley, a guy named Nick, and Charlie's dad just jammed on some acoustic guitars, playing Johnny Cash covers, and some of their own stuff. The coffee was good too, and their everything bagels were delicious, and actually pretty cheap. I wish we had gotten there sooner though, because Charlie and his friends only played for about 45 minutes after we arrived. Still, it was good to see them all, especially Ashley, who I hadn't talked to in ages. She's the one who got me involved in Giles Corey Press. Unfortunately, she's not going to be doing it again this year, but I'm sure I'll still see her around campus.

After the show ended, Kelly and I started roaming the streets of downtown Jeffersonville. It was actually really interesting, despite the fact that everything was closed. There's an old-time candy shop there, Schmiff's, that's been around since 1912 I think. There were a bunch of old pictures of the first owners, and a few really old machines inside. There was also a bar there called the "Third Base Lounge," guaranteed to get you to third base, or your money back.

The strangest thing we saw, was Jeffersonville's Ampitheater, which actually since right on the Ohio river, overlooking Louisville's skyline. We could hear a performance going on, and went over to investigate, only to find a theater troupe, performing in full costume, what could only be described as a musical stage production of the story of David. It was surreal. There were all these balding, overweight men in robes dancing around, and singing, with lights shining on them and even a small audience. In fact, when I first came upon this, I didn't realize it was only a rehearsal, and felt bad for the people on the stage, as it seemed that there were more people in the production than in the actual audience. However, once I actually started watching, I realized how hilarious and absurd the entire endeavor was. Here's a sample of the stunning lyrics:

"My name is King David! I will kill a giant!"

It goes on from there. Kelly was pretty horrified, but I just thought it was a big joke. Has anybody ever heard of a musical based on the life of King David? I'd love to hear some more of it, just to laugh. Beware the choreography and lighting of the Isreaelites.
